Who Are You?
Many people are intimidated by the idea of learning another language. Whether it’s Spanish, Japanese, or Haitian Creole, learning another language is a long-term commitment that will require you to invest time. It takes approximately 24 weeks, or 600 hours for a native English speaker to learn Spanish, while Japanese demands at least 88 weeks, or 2200 hours.
The secret to making your language learning journey easy and fun is applying the right methods to make vocabulary and grammar assimilation a breeze. To make the learning process more efficient, we offer you well-planned lesson plans that gradually introduce vocabulary and grammar topics and are always within a meaningful cultural context.
What to Expect From the First Chapter
The first chapter offers an introduction to Haitian Creole. In taking this lesson, you will learn your first basic vocabulary words (greetings and farewells), subject pronouns, and how to introduce yourself and meet new people, all of which constitute the conversational goals for this learning unit. Apart from conversational goals, you will also learn about basic sentence structure in Haitian Creole and how to ask people about their name using the interrogative word “koman”, which make up the grammar goals for this chapter.
Each chapter from our lesson plans comes with reading material and engaging grammar and vocabulary tasks to test your newly acquired knowledge. We put everything you learn into a meaningful context so that you get a feeling for how real, natural Haitian Creole is used in everyday life. After you’re done with your lesson, you can also go back and review your learning material if you need some extra time to work on your grammar or vocabulary knowledge.
Each new lesson progressively builds upon grammar and vocabulary topics encountered in previous classes, so it is best to take lessons in the suggested order. This way, you’ll be able to make connections easier and learn faster and more efficiently.
